What are the two types of Goal Views?
Differences between Default and Custom Goal Views
Overview
In the Goals tab in Atrium’s top navigation header, you will find all Goal Views that are either owned by you or shared with you.
Goal Views enable you to view your team’s progress towards their KPIs.
Default goal views will show you an overview of all goals set for a given team or individual, but you can also create a Custom Goal View to monitor a subset of goals that align with specific priorities for your team.
This article will walk you through the basics of Goal Views, and help you understand the difference between Default and Custom Goal Views.
What are the two types of Goal Views?
Default Goal Views
All goals that have been set for teams or individuals in your organization are organized automatically into default team or employee goal views. When you look at these Default Goal Views, you will see 100% of the goals for that team or individual (you cannot filter down to a specific subset of goals like you can with Custom Goal Views).
Custom Goal Views
What if you only want to see a very specific set of goals? Perhaps you want to view a subset of your team’s goals (e.g., only your weekly goals), or understand the status of certain types of goals (e.g., only pipeline hygiene goals) from across the organization.
You can create a Custom Goal View, configured to see only the goals you want, and then save it for easy access. You can filter goals by team, employee, time frame and metric, or specify a specific group of goals.

Goal Status Summary
Default Team Goal Views and Custom Goal Views will display a goal status summary that summarizes the status of all goals displayed in the Goal View.
When you hover over each bar, a tooltip will show what goal(s) are in this status.
There are 4 goal status states:
- Red: Goal was missed
- Orange: Goal is at risk
- Green: Goal is ahead or was hit
- Grey: Goal is on track
The order in which employees and teams are displayed depends on the type of Goal View.
- Default Team Goal Views always display the given team’s goals first, and then displays all sub teams and direct report employees in order from worst performing to best performing against their goals.
- Custom Goal Views display all teams or employees in order from worst performing to best performing against their goals.
Default Employee Goal Views will not have a goal status summary, and only display the goal details table.
Goal Details Grid
Default Team Goal Views and Custom Goal Views will display a goal details grid that shows the detailed status of all goals displayed in the Goal View.
The order in which employees and teams are displayed depends on the type of Goal View.
- Default Team Goal Views always display the given team’s goals first, and then displays all sub teams and direct report employees in alphabetical order.
- Custom Goal Views display all teams or employees ordered alphabetically.
Each column in the grid summary can be toggled to show you either the in progress goal status for “this” time period, or the results from the “last” time period. Atrium defaults these columns using the following logic:
- Weekly column: Noon on Tuesday (in the user’s time zone) is the cut off for switching from “recently completed” to “in progress” goal display for weekly goals
- Monthly column: The 3rd business day of the month is the cutoff for switching from “recently completed” to “in progress” goal display for monthly goals
- Quarterly column: The 2nd Friday of the quarter is cutoff for switching from “recently completed” to “in progress” goal display for quarterly goals
Within the goals details grid, you can hover over each goal and view details. This hover tooltip will show you the goal target, the current or final result, the status, and a result projection if applicable. You can then click “view details” to open this goal’s metric card.
Default Employee Goal Views will not have a goal details grid, but instead will display an even more detailed goal details table.
Goal Details Table
Default Employee Goal Views will only display goals in a detailed table. This table will include all goals set for that individual, actual or result, status, and recommended actions if applicable.
You can click on numbers in the actual/result column to see the metric card for this goal's configuration and you can click the numbers in the goal column to edit that goal.
As said above, each column in the details summary can be toggled to show you either the in progress goal status for “this” time period, or the results from the “last” time period.
