Sales and CS is a challenging craft that takes focused coaching and improvement in order to be done excellently. The first step in doing that is being honest about where there are areas for improvement, identifying those, and then agreeing to work together to make positive changes.

Improvement Area: A description of the specific area(s) for improvement. |
Business Rationale: A description of the reason why this needs to be improved as connects with key business outcomes. |
Metrics: A documentation of relevant metrics that demonstrate the performance shortfall. |
Desired Performance: A description of the desired levels of performance defined metrically. |
Resolution Timeframe: A description of the timeframe in which we’d like to see the above improved. |
Consequences: A description of the consequences of non-improvement. |
Plan of Action:
Key Activities & Stakeholders: Description of the key activities that will undertaken, their amounts and cadences, and owners. |
Resources: Description of the resources to be made available to rep, including specific coaching commitments from the immediate manager. |
Review Interval: Description of the intervals of review and final review checkpoint. Caveat what happens if the employee successfully exits the PIP but their performance subsequently declines again. Something like, “A decrease in performance after successfully completing the improvement plan may also result in dismissal from [Company Name] without the issuance of another warning or improvement plan.” |
